PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTITUDES TOWARD ILLNESS IN YOUNG WOMEN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES
УДК 159.9.072.43
Abstract
The relevance of this study is underscored by the growing prevalence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (insulin-dependent diabetes) among young individuals. This paper investigates the characteristics of disease perception among young women with varying durations of illness. The research explores attitudes toward illness in young women diagnosed with diabetes, focusing on dysfunctional cognitive distortions and stress-coping strategies. The study compares the psychological condition of young women diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus with that of their peers without chronic diseases. The findings reveal that young women without chronic somatic conditions demonstrate adaptive attitudes toward illness, whereas those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes exhibit more pronounced maladaptive attitudes. Furthermore, the motivational component of disease perception in women with type 1 diabetes is characterized by the use of specific coping strategies, including avoidance, seeking social support, positive reframing, acceptance of responsibility, and self-control.
