Abstract

Introduction: this article presents the results of a study on procrastination among college students. According to existing scientific data, procrastination is a factor that causes difficulties in the learning process, leading to decreased academic performance, increased anxiety, and ultimately, complete abandonment of learning. Procrastination is one of the mental traps that make it difficult to fully realize the life cycle, and therefore it is impossible to enjoy every moment of life, and that is why this phenomenon is of growing interest both from the community of psychologists and from people far from psychological science. As a rule, a procrastinator does not refuse to complete tasks, but rather delays them, puts them off, and fails to complete them on time. Materials and methods: during the research work, an assessment was made of the severity of educational motives (internal and external) in students and the level of general and academic procrastination in students was determined. To assess the hierarchy of students' learning motives, A.A. Rean and V.A. Yakunin's methodology was used; P. Still's academic procrastination questionnaire was used to assess students' procrastination levels; and K. Lay's questionnaire was used to study students' general procrastination. Results: a persistent tendency among young students to procrastinate on academic assignments was identified. Procrastination itself is a serious obstacle to successful student learning. Recognizing the problem and taking steps to overcome it contributes to improved learning outcomes and increased satisfaction with the educational process. Conclusion: the conducted analysis of the results allowed us to identify the main indicators of academic motivation and confirm the presence of different levels of general and academic procrastination among students.
