THE AUTONOMY OF ADOLESCENTS: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL INDEPENDENCE ACROSS VARYING LEVELS

Abstract
This article is dedicated to the examination of the contemporary psychological phenomenon of "independence." The primary objective of this study was to identify the psychological traits associated with adolescents exhibiting both high and low levels of independence development. The research sample comprised 60 students, aged 14 to 16, evenly divided between 30 boys and 30 girls. Data were collected utilizing the "Questionnaire of Autonomy" developed by O.A. Karabanova and N.N. Poskrebysheva, as well as the "Self-Assessment Test" by S.A. Budassi. A comprehensive mathematical and statistical analysis, employing the Mann-Whitney U test and Student's t-test, revealed significant differences in the autonomy components between subjects with varying levels of independence development. Furthermore, a direct correlation was established between the general autonomy and cognitive autonomy scales and the self-esteem of adolescents. The findings of this study hold potential for informing the development of individualized educational pathways within the framework of psychological and pedagogical support aimed at fostering students' personal self-determination.
