VALUES OF PERSONALITY IN EARLY AND LATE YOUTH
УДК 159.9
Abstract
Introduction: the article presents the results of an empirical study of personal values in early and late youth. The multiple meanings of values is noted, and the role of age as a factor influencing the familiarisation, comparison and rethinking of values is emphasised. Materials and methods: the study involved 80 people (40 men and 40 women) aged 19-44: 40 of them were assigned to the first group – early youth (19-23 years old) and 40 to the second – late youth (40-44 years old); data collection methods: ‘Portrait Value Questionnaire – Revised’ (PVQ-R) by S. Schwartz, adapted by T.P. Butenko, D.S. Sedova, and A.S. Lipatova; ‘Business Orientation Questionnaire’ (ODN) by V.I. Taranenko; ‘Diagnostics of the Structure of Value Orientations’ by S.S. Bubnova; ‘Personality Values Test’ (PVT) by A.V. Kaptsov and L.V. Karpushina. Results: it has been shown that in early youth (19-23 years old), a person is self-oriented (individual focus prevails); in late youth (40-44 years old), their actions are determined by the need for communication, the desire to maintain harmonious relationships with family and other people, and increased responsibility to society (there is a shift towards the social pole). Conclusions: the results open up the possibility of studying the dynamics of values in the worldview of young people and allow for a deep and comprehensive synthesis of the data obtained on human development, taking into account the multiple meanings of values and the principle of personality development through the resolution of contradictions and conflicts.
