INTERNAL PICTURE OF THE DISEASE AND SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL ADAPTATION IN PATIENTS WITH DEGENERATIVE MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS
УДК 159.9
Abstract
This article explores how the internal representation of a disease impacts the socio-psychological adaptation of patients suffering from degenerative musculoskeletal disorders. An empirical study was conducted involving 56 patients diagnosed with osteoarthritis. The research utilized a variety of diagnostic tools, including the TOBOL method (developed by L.I. Wasserman, B.V. Iovlev, E.B. Karpova, and A.Ya. Vuks), the questionnaire on “Well-being, Activity, and Mood” (by V.A. Doskin, N.A. Lavrentyeva, V.B. Sharai, and M.P. Miroshnikov), and the “Diagnostics of Socio-Psychological Adaptation” methodology (by K. Rogers and R. Diamond).
The study paid particular attention to identifying the personal characteristics of patients who exhibited harmonious, interpsychic, and intrapsychic responses to their illness. Significant differences were found among the patient groups in areas such as adaptation, acceptance of others, internality, self-acceptance, and the desire for dominance, particularly between those with harmonious and interpsychic orientations in their personal responses to the disease.
